This and That
This and That, Gabe’s debut solo CD, is described in Current magazine as “music that alternately demands that you sit and listen, then insists you jump up and dance.” The reviewer praised Gabe’s “virtuosity and emotional depth” as well as his “enormous tonal palette.” Featured players include Bryan Pardo (saxophone), Ryan Mackstaller (guitar), Alex Trajano (drums), Andrew Kratzat (bass), and Neil Donato (piano). Non Sequitur
Hailed as “utterly sensational” (New Music Connoisseur) the ensemble Non Sequitur displays their unique vision of new music on this shattering debut CD, featuring dynamic performances of Modernist works by Xenakis and Boulez, theatric and electroacoustic music, and a piece inspired by Karnatic singing. Weaving drama, humor, virtuosity, and visceral energy, Non Sequitur charts a dazzling chamber music experience for the adventurous ear. The Shape of Klez to Come
Into the Freylakh mixes modern re-workings of traditional pieces with originals that extend the Klezmer idiom. The effect is a very different take on the future of Klezmer than one hears in the music of the downtown New York City Klezmer scene. Rather than mix electric guitar and the frenetic energy of Rock music into Klezmer, Into the Freylakh enlivens the tradition by incorporating Jazz, Latin and European art music. The result is a smooth blend that flows from traditional Jewish folk songs to Free Jazz to Latin and back again, never failing to entertain. With Gabe Bolkosky, Michael Gabelman, Jennifer Goltz, Andrew Kratzat, Bryan Pardo, and Isaac Schankler.
